In brief, we have a yard which is located in Lambs Lane, Spencers Wood, Reading that we are trying to relocate to a better suited and safer site within 1 mile of the present one, which is at Balcombe Nurseries, Basingstoke Road, Swallowfield, Reading.

In order to achieve this we have submitted 2 planning application schemes to Wokingham Borough Council under application numbers F/2007/2197 & F/2007/2192 for a change of use on the site from Garden Centre to Builders Merchant and from Garden Centre to Garden Centre & Builders Merchant.

Our current site is in a small lane, surrounded by a new housing development of 121 properties with a primary school within 200 yards of our entrance, the parents and children of which have to walk past on the narrow pavement outside our yard twice a day.

Moving to the Balcombe site would mean all vehicles would be contained within the site with no need to park in the road itself, as happens with our present site. The entrance from Basingstoke road is far more suitable as the traffic to and from our current site already uses it. It has been approved (and accepted by the Council) that a Garden Centre would have a far greater traffic impact on the site than we would have, Garden centres also open 7 days per week, whereas we only open 5.5 days.
